Harton Quay was officially opened by His Royal Highness the Duke of Gloucester
on 8 February. It was a glorious day on South Tyneside and the event was
attended by a wide range of guests including local dignitaries and Ian
Livingston, the CEO of BT Group PLC. The Duke was given a tour of the new
building and met a number of the 500 new employees, 80% of whom come from the
local area. This was followed by a private briefing where the Duke, an architect
by training, was given a presentation on how the scheme has developed and the
role it will play in acting as a catalyst for the ongoing regeneration for the
riverside.
